We are very pleased to now be trading from our new home and workshop in the delightful surroundings of the Bushey countryside, Hertfordshire. We make about ten new instruments a year as well as carrying out regular repair and restoration of fine violins, violas, cellos and basses. Other work includes the making of carbon fibre bows and some violin teaching. We also organise the Fiddle Hell event which takes place once or twice a year and attracts many players, makers and fans.
All of our instruments are handmade and carry on the principles and working methods of the old masters, embodying the highest standards of craftsmanship. Each instrument is a unique creation and can vary in materials, finish and tone, depending on the customer's desire. The tonal quality we seek is of a warm dark colour, rich in harmonics and one that Gerard associates with old Italian fiddles. We also make exact copies of old instruments for clients who feel safer having a second instrument.
We offer discounts to schools and students - please contact Gerard for details. We also provide an emergency bow rehair service and would again ask kindly that you contact Gerard for information on our out of hours service. So whatever your playing level and whatever the damage or issue, if you have an instrument that no longer sounds as warm or bright as it used to, or just doesn't feel right, we are here to serve and restore your pride and joy to its former glory.
All of our work is guaranteed and each instrument is subjected to careful examination before we are satisfied that it is suitable to leave our workshop. It is by maintaining these rigorous standards that we are able to supply quality instruments. We have a good selection of instruments and bows to choose from and you are welcome to try.
